Wines You Should Be Drinking: Keush Extra Brut Sparkling Rosé from Armenia
Armenia is making exceptional wines
I had never had Armenian wine before attending a virtual media tasting this past July. What I discovered in the tasting is they are making thoughtful and approachable wines that are delicious. Armenia is one of the oldest winemaking region that we should be paying attention to now. Who knew Armenia made sparkling wine? I didn’t until this tasting and this is why the Keush Rosé Cuvée Couchanne (Extra Brut Rosé) 2018 should be in your wine glass.
I had to look at a map to see exactly where Armenia is located. Armenia is a former Soviet republic in the Caucasus mountains between Europe and Asia. When we think of this part of the world, I know I am not alone in not knowing about their storied wine history.
Keush wines are made in the traditional method just like champagne. The minimum aging on the lees in Champagne is 12 months and this wine is aged a minimum of 22 months, yielding a rich and refined flavor. The wine is made with the Armenian indigenous grape of Areni and it is layered while also being nuanced.
There is a reason this wine has won many awards because it is deserving of its honor. It’s refreshing and can easily be a wine as an apéro before dinner or paired with a cheese and charcuterie board. Keush is a sparkling wine house made solely from indigenous grapes that see a high elevation resulting in wines that are lively and fun to drink.
Keush Sparkling Wines, are wines you should be drinking.
I've had still red Areni wine that was fantabulous, but I'll have to keep my eye out for this now as well! Armenian wine is definitely worth everyone's time, and thankfully it's starting to show up in more and more American shops.
I found it on Wine Chateau, I'll have to check it out! ❤️🍾
