Wines You Should Be Drinking: Alta Colina GSM 2020
Paso Robles should be your next California wine destination.
Paso Robles is one of top wine regions in California in which more people should visit. Those elegant and rich Syrahs beckon to be in my glass. Paso has some of the best tasting wines in California. Located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco and it is perfect for a road trip.
The area makes wines from various grape varieties, with their signature grape being Cabernet Sauvignon, but I have a fondness for GSMs: Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. These dynamic and tantilizing Rhône blends or what I like to call the Rhône holy trinity keeps me going back in person and in my glass.
Alta Colina is a boutique family owned winery in Paso worthy of a visit. Their wines speak to what the soil is giving them; bold, nuanced, and with very low intervention that will turn you from being a casual wine drinker to a collector. If collecting wine is your thing, have at it. I am in my drink now era.
This wine has plum and cherry cordial aromas, bursting with ripe red fruit and decadent chocolate flavors. This isn’t a sweet wine, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be paired with something sweet. I’m a savory girl and this wine was divine with Cuban Piccadillo, Bolognese, and fajitas. Yep, I made all three dishes for this one wine.
